Madaba, also known as "the City of Mosaics" is 30 Km south of Amman. The 5,000-year-old Kingsī Highway passes through the city, and remains of the Roman Road can still be seen in the midst of the modern town.
The city, best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, is home to the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Other mosaic masterpieces are found in the church of the Virgin and the Apostles and the Archaeological Museum.
