Welcome to Jordan
Although Jordan is a little over eighty years old, its people are the inheritors of several civilizations that span thousands of years of history. It is situated on one of the greatest crossroads of the world on the bridgehead between Asia and Africa. Various indigenous and invading civilizations left permanent markings of their legacies across the country.
The fabulous Nabatean Petra, a city carved in the rose-red rock, stands today as a stunning witness to a remarkable civilization that defied the power of Rome between 300 BC and AD 500.The amphitheatres in Amman and other parts of the country are fine examples of glorious Roman architecture.
The famous mosaic map of Jerusalem at the Greek Orthodox Church in Madaba is the oldest map of the city of Jerusalem in existence.
The Dead Sea, which is the lowest point on earth, has a unique combination of factors: the chemical composition of its water, the filtered sunrays and oxygen–rich air, the mineral–rich black mud along the shoreline, and the adjacent freshwater and thermal mineral springs.
The Crusaders Castles in Karak and Shobak are exquisite examples of the work of different civilizations.
The marvelous sandstone mountains and deserts of Wadi Rum make it one of the most stunning desert landscapes of the world.
Although eighty percent of Jordan is desert, it had defied great odds and has become a modern country, with a network of good roads, and a booming industrial and agricultural sector.
Jordanians have one of the highest standards of education in the area. The schools are packed with students, many of them seeking higher education in Jordan and abroad.
